What is motivational climate?
Research tells us what qualities make for high performers – they are the behaviors, characteristics, strategies, skills, and mindsets that lend themselves toward maximum performance.
Sometimes those things aren't enough. But why not?
People operate within a climate that influences whether doing all the right things actually gets the expected results. If the climate supports their efforts, then their actions will lead to good performance. This is a climate that supports motivation – one that makes the most out of people’s efforts and ensures that positive action is sustained. It provides resources to support performance, evaluates performance accurately and fairly, and provides rewards that are clearly based on evaluations and that are valuable to the people receiving them.

Motivational Climate Assessment
The Motivational Climate Assessment (MCA) is a validated, evidence-based assessment tool for examining how organizational climate supports the motivation and performance of the people within it.
The MCA is different from other climate and engagement surveys – it provides a diagnosis of Motivational Climate across four domains, and then prescribes practical solutions for lasting improvement.
The MCA in Education
Great news for educators!
Versions of the MCA have been developed especially for use in Education. The Teacher and School Leader MCA examines how school and district climate supports educator motivation and performance. Its Student counterpart (sMCA) offers feedback to teachers and school leaders on school- and classroom-level climate in Grades 3 through 12.
